Hey Dad, thanks for refreshing those links!  I like to pop in and follow links to read things I missed and this will surely help!  I hope to see the Harriet Tubman movie soon.  Whether the directors/producers took liberties or not, it's time she is honored and her story is told.

Your Company to Keep

your carriage black stops at my door
velvet curtain drawn aside
a nod and gesture beckoning
for me to come inside

your message soothing to my ear
so long since I was seduced
magnetic language draws me in
and gives my soul a boost

the tolling bells the carriage black
have set my course in stone-
why would I let your carriage pass
when I am so alone

I glance first left then right again
to be sure we are not seen
Taking offered hand I step inside
to sup on your cuisine

the banquet hall is all laid out
your feast a comfort fare
of memories spanning eighty years
a love-long life affair

in my cup is offered rest
respite from all the pain
eagerly I drink it up
and meet your gaze again

your boney fingers reach for me
loosing cobwebs from my soul
your grim whip cracks and we are off
the welcome death bell tolls

Hi Spurs and Stetson, I got a strong sense of sea and the mythical dangers of sailing.
I'm not really one for writing specific styles of poetry, I get all messed up by the
rules, so I'm not a critique of styles either. I did enjoy your write though.  :)

While writing, I studied the legend. Apparently, if you pass thru without succumbing to the Siren, they die.
To maintain the rhyme, I let the Siren wash up on the beach.

I agree with elise, this is captivating.  I had to reread it several times (because I really like it).  The only thing that seemed a little off is the last part that says, "sirens on the beach" ... although it fits, normally when you hear of sirens they are mermaid type creatures that stay beneath the water.  Beautiful women who mesmerize can also be considered sirens, so it's a perspective thing.  I really enjoyed this  :poet

Thanks for the birthday wishes, Daisy and Inspired.  Sorry for the late reply, I'm just not as active as I thought I'd be here or any other site really.   :comfort

I hope to find myself at the end of the next 10 years with a retirement. Because nothing is guaranteed.
I like your musings.

Skelator was pretty ripped. Just ugly and misunderstood.
