Title: Butterfly

I once read that a Haiku should pop up in your mind without too much thinking about it, and well this one kinda did just that...

Butterfly dancing

A rose blooming for one day

Man sighs for lost dreams

Oh, my husband wanted to play, too. Last night he asked me about haiku. He said that he thought that he had one. It just popped into his head.

Have you ever seen
any yellow butterflies
fly in a straight line?

I thought that was pretty good for someone who professes that he's not interested in poetry.

Wow! Yes, way to go husband of witt!

It once again proofs to me that with Haiku's the ones that "pop into the head" are often the best ones ~smiles~

Greetings to you both from a cold and windy Holland...

What a great haiku. I'm fascinated with the form.
I like the idea of letting something pop into our thoughts.
I often will drift off to sleep and think, no wait, get up,
write it down. And, often do just that. :artist:

Thanks for the compliment! And I know exactly what you mean Kay...I have notepad/pen and  memo-recorder on my nightstand just in case...a thought pops up...or on wake up a dream maybe the base for a new short story...or poem... :writer:

I love butterflies.. the haiku here is as I imagined it as its best.
I'm still trying to write some myself. It gives me headache, so I am obviously thinking too much!
It could be worse tho if I don't think at all, lol. Anyway, I very much liked this and witt's husband can outdo me, so that's depresssing! lol

Nice one Dutch, and Witt's husband too. It's true, those haiku, or any poetry that 'pops' is usually the best. It's great when you don't have to think too much. The problem is, the tend to 'pop' at he most inoppurtune times, when you're trying not to think - just before you fall asleep, driving on a long road trip...for me, it almost always happens in the shower. hehe I've lost a lot of poems with soap stinging my eyes.

The haiku and quatrain sections are my 2 favorites here for that very reason, the freedom to just write without thinking about it.

I like your haiku too.
