Title: Back When
Post by: Wordweaver on June 09, 2019, 10:54 PM
Back When

I would like to return to the time when nature smiled
upon my face and my body was hard as a kitchen table top.
Back when people said I looked like Dean Martin, they
stretched some but not like across the grand canyon.

Back when girls would put an extra swivel into their
hips when they saw me coming.  I could do the splits,
run the mile, and ride a 30 minute moto on a dirt track.
I could write 3 poems in a day and catch flies in my hand.

My address book lived inside my head and I did not need
much food to prosper.  I could convince my mother that
every girl I dated was a good church girl like she wanted.
Back when marriages lasted more then five years.

Back when most jobs could last long enough to retire and
get that pension and gold watch. When medicine was affordable
and doctors looked at you like a human being instead of cash.
Back when you held your dance pardner close and knew her name.

That's a lot of 'back whens'. You brought back my own share of memories and they're sort of similar to yours.
I wouldn't be too worried about not being able to catch those flies in your hand anymore.   wink*

Maybe I will just keep my hands filled with Hershey Kisses they are easier to catch
and stick with your ribs better.

The only time you get the gold watch nowadays is when you buy it yourself ... the times sure have changed.  I do still remember, back when though.
