Patchen's 'There's a Place'
« on: October 06, 2006, 12:41 PM »
Kenneth Patchen Reads With Jazz in Canada.
With the Alan Neil Quartet.

The record was released in the late fifties
and the Patchen character is derived from
a self-portrait he did in that same decade.

Monsieur Bleu,

This is captivating. Are those holes in his cheeks ¿ I love how the reading in itself is macabre. And that ruefully wry expression on his face.

I wish you could visit other geography at SplashHall once in a while. Those of us who have merely words appreciate guests too.

admiringly,

Thanks ladies, for the hat tips.

c_s,
This toon character is an adaptation of one of his self-portraits. The mark on his cheek is his representation of a mole he had, I think. I do visit the other areas of SplashHall every now and then. I rarely comment 'cause .. well, I'm a recluse. Usually, my comments to people are not well recieved because I am a barbarous, discourteous, 'know-it-all' with no real social skills. I can give you a very, very long list of the email addresses of people who will confirm that characterization, so believe me, it's true.

Debbie, Cookie,
I appreciate the 'artist' label. Truth be told, there is no evidence such a label is justified. Photographs and photoshop skill doesn't make an artist. Everything I do is derived from someone else's hard work and talent. Thanks for the thought tho'.

Monsieur Bleu,

Your response is disappointing. The fact that you post your wonderful work here is proof that you're not a recluse, nor do you strike me as barbaric or uncouth in any way.

Perhaps all that is lacking is an interest on your part? I don't want a list of your detractors. You know what I want, Sir, the question is why won't you indulge me?

Oh, and I'm not speaking about my poems. I'm not a member of the Old Boys' Club. There are several poets at SplashHall whose work you would ( I am almost certain) admire and enjoy. Shall I name them for you to facilitate your engagement?

c_s,

I'm sorry you feel as you do.

Like I said, I do visit other areas of the board. I am aware of many of the writers who frequent SplashHall. I see the hundreds of views they tally on each of their postings. I've even added to those 'views' tallies. It seems to me that many of the writers here already have a large readership.

So, I do peruse the work posted in the other subforums and enjoy much of it. When I send private messages and emails to those people I've learned about because of SplashHall, those messages never get a reply. So scolding me, a newbie with a viewer base of 5 or 6 SplashHall particpants, for lack of engagement seems a bit unfair.

Beau Blue,

I wasn't really scolding, not really, just expressing disappointment. So now you know. And now I know you know.

Nothing has changed.
At least not for me.

I love the work you do, and I'm delighted that you post it here.

[And look at our entry dates. Who is the newbie? ]
