Fabricated Friendship

I know little about friends since so few are available
that are reliable enough to earn my complete trust.
Oh sure, there are galleries of them that will clutter
together in good times and eat up all the corn.  But
when the corn is gone they won't be around to replant.

I have a special dislike for those that claim to love
and admire then disappear in caravans when they hear
the tamborines of greed calling to feed their egoes.
It is just a paper machet smile and match book warmth
they offer mixed with glitter disguised emptiness.

Above all friendship is honor and devotion that trumps
your wants and should require all your resourses to
support a friend in times of need for as long as it
takes.  If you cannot meet this requirement gladly
then you are not a friend,  you are just a parasite
that will eventually scream regret when you are
kicked to the curb in the same style you perfected.

a good poet is like a bride
Something old, something new, something borrowed
but mostly you.

I think experience has certainly fuelled your distaste for the likes of these people. :)

"Paper mache smile ... glitter disguised emptiness" ... I've seen a lot of this.  Hard to tell the difference sometimes.
