English Marmalade

English Marmalade

They say a dog's bark
is worse than its bite
I cornered one the
other day and I
don't understand
any longer
all god's things
have a say
the cornered dog
had had its day
it's the way
of things
and I moved along
down that sometimes
bitter path
I've see it all
what comes along
and I don't know
any more
things like marmalade
sweet and sticky
I put my fingers
to my mouth
I wonder
will the lioness
mourn the antelope
as her cubs
nurse in her
warm underneath
"...I know you wont kill me,
but I wonder sometimes..."

I like how you moved from the cornered dog to marmalade and back to the antelope.
Good emotional rollercoaster.
