upstairs in the sunsets blurred by the tired glass

it started in chalk
on a board in santa monica
we were bent
hell bent on gin
sea urchin and peeled shrimp

the layover in chicago was cool
have a traveler
see you
when i am looking at you
on your way back

actually it started
on the second floor
the hotel dublin number thirty one

steven
kari
place your bags here
and follow me

tea
or coffee

if i were smarter
than i am
i would have known
what you are about to

there are more stones than stars
laid by men
on this land
and i dare you to count them

like most places that haunt you
this one feels good
beneath the balls
of your feet

the showers were warm
the beers were perky
and the steam in the whiskey
was local

when the sun dipped into the edge of the city
there were blues
manmade yellows
i could only try to forget

the potted crab
hidden beneath the clarified butter
gave good monday
and good tuesday breakfast
was full irish

it would be impolite
if i failed to mention
st patrick
his bust
staring skyward
the one we photographed before the liffey

and on the liffey
we dined three times
upstairs in the sunsets blurred by the tired glass

tanks for that

what does that mean
tickety boo
boo tickety
tickety boo

there were two people
they said
i do
and green meadows
kissed clouds
powder blue skies
and the ancients cuddling behind those white walls
raised their glasses

to your moons
reflecting in our stream
now was always better than then

Am I reading a wedding story, Cy? Love the imagery if that's what it's all about. Excellent imagery even if I'm wrong. I'd love to get a taste of that potted crab too.

I noticed a couple of typos that I'm sure you'll catch later Cy, but I like it.
Stop looking at the light. Instead, look at what is being illuminated by the light.

YES.  i wrote this on the plane on the way home from a friend's wedding in dublin. like any irish story, there is more than what is written. as it goes with this moment, you have it...
