my hand clutches your dress

it s been eight years
not a winter yet
since you said what you said
i gave a damn
when i had a damn to give

seven something
they are two hours late
i never asked
if i should have been here before
and three hudsons later
i am still here

and by the time you arrive
your sandals make the same sound
your boots did
back then
when
you pointed your phone south
planes took off
in the backseat
the salt air said
sip me
lick my lips

i missed you
did you miss me
nevermind
is that our galaxy
may i sleep with her
can you fix me up
with that fallen star

before we land in toronto
ride her ferris wheel
can we agree
to take it slow
and
should we ever talk about this
when the knee bends
take a hard left
this place is near marienplatz

apertures close
the moonset is oblivious
forgive me
this comes later
next month
i get like that
i can taste rain

can we return to the origin of these eggs

of course

park
on the corner of rose and hampton
a little while longer
as long as it takes
to get turned around

my hand clutches your dress
your heels takes flight

on one screen
my instagram says
four feet
but i am going to do my damndest
to make it sixteen

just things that we talked about

fourth and fairfax
a sneaky nearby

sometimes she can act like that
her waves stick around
whisper
please look back

as the single prop plane
fades into the whispers
your spoon scooping my pan
cars passing by
fans oscillating
the sound of carignan
tickles sky
now was always better than then

This is a magnificent poem. I found your imagery to be taut, but the emotions throughout are muddled...all in a good way. I like the contrasts, the wanting, but not wanting that, no thank you. It's been a long time since I have read your work and there is so much written on the internet that lacks an edge and your poetry is always so pointedly above the mundane. It was a pleasure to read this.

There's nothing in this poem that doesn't spark an emotion, a memory, a longing.  It's well polished.  Is this a gift that you have, or do you edit and rewrite, etc?  I found myself wanting to read it fast, but realized a couple stanzas in that it needs to be read slow, to digest, to allow the images a chance to fade into one another.  Very nicely done, Cy!
