July 2012 IBPC Poem Submissions
Interboard Poetry Competition

Please post your submission for the IBPC (Interboard Poetry Community) Competition. The IBPC is an international monthly poetry competition between to an elite group of poetry boards/forums around the world. Submissions will be accepted until July 31 at 8 p.m. est

Limit One Poem Per Poet.

By submitting your poem here, you give your consent for the Tin Roof Alley to submit your poem to the IBPC Competition. Click "Reply" to enter your poem.

When entering be sure to check out the current judge Here to get a feel for the type of poems they like. It will help you to create this month's poem. About every 3 months the judges change. They are usually publishers and editors of literature magazines on and off line.

IBPC competition regulations allow the submission of only one poem per poet, per monthly competition. This means that if you have entered a poem elsewhere, you may not enter it, or a different poem, here.  It causes confusion, extra work for the judges, and can delay the winning announcement.

Why don't you submit your poem in the Poetic AX for a little tweaking and polishing?

Shadows. Those stages where we dry off.
Dark spaces beneath and below our own light.
Secrets. Comforting in a friend kind of manner,
childlike when diminished toward mid-afternoon.
My mother called them l'ombre.
Before life, it was all there was.
Porch spots we curled up inside.
Small thumbs inside small thumbs.
Their fragments still give purpose
as they travel with us. To hold us when
we can no longer stand.
Guests inside our lives,
behind another's smile,
or even along the windowsill.

Look, another beginning outside these bright
rooms of rain. Doors open and close
like a robin's breast. I never want to be
satisfied with full light,
or to walk so straight
I miss the last season's face.
I never want to miss
those shapes I don't recognize,
Each one is a soft cloth that stays
and stays.

Don't lay me in this hard clay
where mad raccoons lurk in sunshine
and vultures wait for ripped leavings
of the fox who sits in the yard eyeing the cat,
where deer harvest my beans and sow their ticks.
This bull tallow is like concrete when it's dry.
I'll be trapped forever in that vengeful grave,
a place where even bacteria can't breed.

Flop me in the pluff mud to undulate
with cordgrass and laugh with the gulls.
I'll giggle as shrimp nibble my toes,
sidle beside blue crabs,
and synchronize with mummichogs
while moon snails cover my eyes.
Let me languish in the low country salt marsh
to drift away with the tide.
