What Is It Like?
« on: April 06, 2012, 10:54 PM »

Look out the window
see death, a wind train
beating bushes
stripping trees
throwing trucks into pews.

Forget cameras
run, not bravely,
to basement
interior room
bathtub
duck and cover.

What is it like when
the wind train
peels your roof
sucks shirts
from closets
claws your back

and leaves
yellow roses
unscathed.

Hey WF, great to see you!   Are you in Texas too?  I can so relate to the wind of recent days!  Yikes!

No, Elise.  I live near Buffalo (ask me about snow, lol).   I've near seen a tornado outside of the news or youtube.

Well you described my feelings perfectly!  I hope you never DO see a tornado!

I've experienced tornadoes in Va, Tn, Sc, and Ga. While in Georgia one day back in the 80s I was in front of, beside or following a total of six in one day.

In Sc  one came north up I85 right at the Georgia line. I was going south and it passed parallel to me about a 1/4 mile. It was all I could do to keep my rig under controll.

One hit in Knoxville, Tn without warning one evening. I was sitting on the bed in the motel watching the rain and all the sudden the rain started blowing sideways and I hear that familiar train noise. I guess it took me about 3 seconds to drag the mattress in the bathroom and get under it in the tub. It shook and rattled the building and the next morning we saw the damage the next block over where it landed.

I've seen all I need to see with regard to tornadoes. And yes folks, they do sound like a freight train.
Stop looking at the light. Instead, look at what is being illuminated by the light.
