Basilica: In ancient Rome, a building with a central nave, a columned aisle on each side, and typically a terminal semicircular apse.

Naked as the prose of Gibran
on the edge of twilight memory -
congregating in Saint Peter's square
crowded cobblestones slicked with morning dew.

I whisper the dawning
as sunlight creeps wearily along the seven sacred hills -
flocks of sparrows gather to worship
singing praises to the Pieta beneath the artist's signature.

Michelangelo fingertips
sculpt the outstretched marble of your hips -
while your delicate angelic sighs
paint my ceiling with indelible Sistine vignettes.

Do you not know that chaste women stay fresh much more than those who are not chaste? How much more in the case of the Virgin, who had never experienced the least lascivious desire that might change her body? ~ Michelangelo Buonarroti
