I would like to begin with one of the big orchids flowering every year somewhere between end November and begin January. I see the spikes already begin their journey to the light! Seven in total, so that will be an abundance of flowers. Last year I had like 40 yellow, citrus smelling 4 inch flowers on each spike!

Because the weather is windy and rainy...well it is overhere in The Netherlands I think we all can use some sunshine in the form of another orchid. This is one orchid that has been growing/flowering for a few years in my house but unfortunately died a few years ago. And it isn't always easy to find another one. This Cattleya as it's called flowers in Summer time for 14 days with lovely yellow flowers of 9 inches diam. and has a lovely flowery scent.

Each flower is a little like a child, they're beautiful, Dutch. The size of each flower and
the number of flower heads tells me you know exactly what you're doing with your Orchids.
The colors are so sunny, your home is surely fragrant and filled with light from these beauties.

Yesterday we had the first snow of this winter. Just a few inches, nothing serious. With temperatures freezing a couple of degrees at night I have to make sure my orchids are safe. These plants mostly comming from tropical places need a warm environment year through. Which doesn't mean that at night it can be slightly cooler as during daytime. Orchids are in ways so much like humans!  *rofl*

So I moved all the plants away from the glass so the coolness or air circulations or even some morning moisture won't affect them or even make them drop their buds!

Because the view outside is so white and peaceful...let's give y'all some white  beauty to warm your day!

Iam happy to hear you all love the colors of the orchids, who indeed come in all sizes..colors and shapes!

Yeah elise dear friend...It has been snowing here and for Dutch standards quite seriously....I know you love snow and for you and all of you that want to know how The Netherlands looks right now...please follow me into the Greenhouse...Even though inside there it's lovely warm...I will advise you to put on your coat, because it's chilly on our short walk from here to there!  :tongue

My dear poetry friends!

There is so much I don't know, and every day there are new things I discover.  I found the orchid below when I was picture hunting for this section. There is actually something called a "Christmas Orchid"
 in Australia/New Zealand!

So from a cold and white Holland I wish you all a wonderful Christmas filled with joy and good times..wonderful food and drinks but above all surrounded with family and loved ones! Have a good one!

Thanks for the link Halo! I know that Australia is blessed with quite some beautiful orchids, both troipcal ones and the "woodland ones" .

Even some species and genus that only live in Australia !

And my dear poet friends, this orchid surprised me with her flowers today(after having me waited for like 5 weeks until the flower spikes and the buds were all ready)

Here is a I think nice example of a Cymbidium
