Torn

Torn

I climbed onto the ledge,
planted myself,
exposed my heart
to the elements.
You were tentative,
open, and caring -
promising "us"
would continue
to be, forever.
The sky was poetic,
reflecting in your eyes.
Roots took hold
and our hearts
blossomed,
supported,
loved.

The ground was strong
but your promise,
untrue.
Bricks crumbled
beneath me.
Roots, embedded
in my heart - torn.
Pieces strewn
through the perfect sky -
my love for you
dissolved,
blossom
by blossom.
Reflections faded
illusions of "us"
destroyed.

My heart - injured,
recovering, still beating -
away from the ledge.

daisy sis...this is one of your best ever.  So well written.   I feel the pain in it.
It's palpable.  My heart goes out to you.  Excellent expression.

It is truly a grand job of writing, unfortunately the inspiration was primed by an unpleasant occurrence. Hugs to you

Sometimes I put myself into a picture, and write as if it really was my experience ........ but, unfortunately, this heart really was injured, and the experience was mine.

elise, sis, thank you.  After taking such a long break between poems, I'm glad to be able to pull a few words together from the mish-mash rambling around in my head.

weave, thanks, always welcome the hugs ... inspiration does speak to us from some strange places.
