here I sit, alone
came here to write a poem
now I am broken hearted
even my dog and I parted
guess I just take my heart and go home

Poetry and Hums aren't things which you get, they're things which get you.
And all you can do is to go where they can find you.

This winter will never leave
The roads are beginning to heave
The ice it won't go
There's always snow
World-warming I just don't believe

I listen for each lonely breath.

Snow in the States, Tropical Storm in dropbear land
if anybody can make sense out of it, I can't
In Holland - no winter weather here -
more Autumn when Spring should be getting near
Maybe its Nature's showing us where we stand

I would be remiss as poetry director if I didn't jump in here and remind folks that there is a specific pattern to a limerick. The meter of a limerick is just as important, if not more so, as the words.
The rhyme pattern is a a b b a. Most have that correct, but the meter is off. Lines 1, 2 and 5 must contain 3 beats and lines 3 and 4 have only two beats.

For example.
This winter will never leave a / 3 beats
The roads are beginning to heave a / 3 beats
The ice it won't go    b / 2 beats
There's always snow  b  /  2 beats
World-warming I just don't believe

The sing-songy quality is the fun of limericks.

I listen for each lonely breath.

Personally spoken I admit my last Limerick was a poor one   :poet

and may I add to the Poetry Director lines that a Limerick also should have a Geographic reference(normally a city name) in the first line and most of times have a fun subject with a "twist" in the last line.

I believe in making the world safe for our children, but not for our children's children, because I don't think children should be having sex.

Mystic,

That is a good one.  Been revised a few times to allow for geographic orientation.

On the chest of a barmaid in Sale,
Were inscribed all the prices of ale
And on her behind
For the sake of the blind
Was the same information in Braille

I don't know where "Sale" is.
Then there's, "On the chest of a barmaid from Yale....
One version by someone who couldn't tell fish from cities...."On the chest of a barmaid from whales...ales."

Been making the rounds since 2002, which just goes to show a good joke never grows old.

Regards,
Bill

A caterpillar on a beam,
blowing off some steam:
"I feel kinda strange,
about all this change
I even could fly in my dream!"
