Dad's Face
« on: May 19, 2009, 09:29 PM »
My Dad often appears in my dreams ... and I've discovered that's it's very difficult to express in words, how he appears, but I tried - perhaps this one isn't finished, just yet ...

Dad's Face

Dad walked into my dream
stirring memories of better times -
childhood scenes replaying
on a projector, stuck in a loop.

I tried to memorize his face
full of youth, full of life,
without pain, without darkness,
without sadness, without death.

Dad walked into my dream -
his grandchildren are grown.
He couldn't hide his illness,
he turned toward the light.

His face suddenly changed,
concern showed in his brow.
I told him, don't worry.
We'll be all right.

Dad walked into my dream -
it's the night he slipped away,
disconnected by medicine,
still connected to my heart.

I memorized his face
in that moment, that time -
and I wished for childhood scenes
of his face without pain, without death.

Wonderful. My dad visits me, too.
