KIKSUYE TIWAHE
« on: April 19, 2007, 04:14 AM »
Long before we drove that crippled jagged road
We searched for you for years
Through anguish, sweat and tears.

Faceless loved-ones buried far too long and deep
We re-visited your family
Embracing you without vanity.

Defeated by social chasms and publicly demarked
We felt your deep-seeded anger
Understand why you feared a stranger.

Tribal pride and lore were stifled so long ago
We hope your spirits greet us
With sincere love and utter trust.

Anxiously arriving as dawn greets morning's dew
Nervously we walk your paths
In our desperate search for you.

At last amidst the ash and the crisply flowing creek
Holding hands we find you all
The one's we aimed to seek.

Kneeling slowly now, our hands reaching down
We slowly touch each old stone
Sensing your presence all around.

Weakened knees find us as we now stand beside a tree
Tears stream down our faces
As we stare so lovingly.

Never did we imagine we would ever see your face
'Twas destiny that brought us here
Nudged along by our God's Grace.

Thank you, oh thank you for inserting the UTube Vid for me...I was up until after 2 last night trying to insert the darn thing!  As an aside...the video was shot by a distant cousin but the headstones shown in both cemeteries are my ancestors as too are the tree photographs.  He did a beautiful job...I so love the song choice.  Blessings~~~Oiseau

Oiseau,
This is heart wrenchingly beautiful...
I heard the term "Melungeons" many years ago and since listening to this, I've done some research.
I am fascinated by what I've found!

Hello Cookie...thank you so much for your fond reply...my maternal family have been called various and sundry names, including: Melungeons, Magoffin Brown People and Carmel Indians...we now know that they/we are of some NA ancestry but the exactitudes are still cloudy...most likely some Siouxan tribe mixed with perhaps Cherokee (family lore indicator)...perhaps Saponi or Tutelo or Monocan.  My heritage and genealogical research are a very important part of my life and matter so very much to me.  Honoring our deceased is my main objective and in so doing I do cemetery recordings/photographing and restoration.  So tell me, if you will: what did you find?
Thanks yet again~~~Oiseau
