Graveyard Walk

Graveyard Walk

The sullen blood-tinged moon lies low in a starless sky,
Casting grim black silhouettes with it's baleful eye.
The cold wind blows skeletal trees with uncertain gusts,
Swirling the dry parchment leaves on the graveyard dust.

Marble angels with broken wings lie silent on the ground;
Weathered headstones, faded with time, mark the burial mounds.
Strange mists drifts between monuments made of stone,
Blanketing the crumbling coffins and their ancient bones.

A long forgotten chapel sits on a lonely churchyard;
It's windows stare with vacant eyes, it's ornate doors lay charred.
The sullen moon casts eerie shadows that makes the heart grow frail;
Will you walk this land of the dead and live to tell the tale?

Hiya Cookie,

This is such a great write.  Wonderful visuals.  It reminds me of a small graveyard beside a very old Church in my town that everyone says is haunted.  People used to dare others to stay there by themselves.  They would drop them off and then come back and pick the up later.  What stories that have gone around about this haunted old cemetery.

Thanks for sharing and I hope to see you tomorrow in voo chat.. I may be a bit late, but I hope to be there..

take care,

Denise

I sure felt the sense of foreboding and of being alone, but not really.
Graveyards kind of give me the creeps. Very effective, I love your "marble angels"

Denise, my friend,
Thank you so much for your kind words. :rose
I was calling upon all my childhood visits to graveyards for visuals.

Thanks, Sunny girl! :rose
You must've been reading my mind.
I've been searching the internet for scary video clips
Have to convert them for swish...
Anyone know where I might find video for this poem?

Cookie~

A shivery walk indeed.

May need to bring a sweater!

My favorite stanza is the middle one:

Quote
Marble angels with broken wings lie silent on the ground;
Weathered headstones, faded with time, mark the burial mounds.
Strange mists drifts between monuments made of stone,
Blanketing the crumbling coffins and their ancient bones.

Beautiful depiction of a graveyard walk.
